Tracks and Trails are proud to be the only adventure holiday company officially recognised by the British Association of Snowsport Instructors (BASI) as a Nordic Ski School.
Excellence in teaching is at the core of what we do. Our founders both hold the highest level of cross-country ski qualification awarded by the International Ski Instructors Association.
We work exclusively with fully qualified professional cross-country ski instructors. For our guests, that means the highest standards of teaching and safety.
Cross-Country Skiing Holidays

We offer expert instruction across all three Nordic ski styles and guests are guided by first-class instructors who make learning fun and effective:
- Classic: the traditional technique, resembling walking or running on skis on groomed pre-cut tracks.
- Skate: a dynamic style echoing the motion of ice skating, perfect for building strength and rhythm.
- Off-track: skiing beyond groomed trails and into the wilderness to discover untouched winter landscapes.
Each offers the chance to discover the beauty and variety of Nordic skiing in its purest form.

Ski XC – what’s in a name?
There are lots of names given to cross-country skiing. Described as Nordic skiing, langlauf, ski de fond or simply ski xc – it’s a ski style that gives guests a unique way to travel through winter landscapes.
Unlike alpine skiing, ski xc is 100% human powered, there are no lifts. We use only rhythm and effort to carry ourselves across snow-covered valleys and lakes, along mountain trails and through wintery forests.
